Heart of Hackney

Hackney's fascinating, modern, local museum, housed in the new Hackney library, tells the story of Hackney, from the Saxons to C21. On the same square are Hackney's Art Deco town hall and the Hackney Empire, one of London's finest music hall theatres, where Charlie Chaplin, Marie Lloyd and Lillie Langtry performed. On to a fine 18th century church with splendid monuments and a 13th century tower, fine Regency architecture and the Grade II* listed Round Chapel. The walk finishes at Sutton House, Inner London's only Tudor house, with Henry VIII, Queens Mary and Elizabeth and Mary Queen of Scots associations, where you can stay for tea and visit, if you wish.
